“A Chihuahua a Day Keeps the Sadness Away” – 2014
In 2013, during a difficult period of my life, I wanted to learn how to paint but didn’t know what to paint. On January 1st, 2014, I began a simple commitment: to paint every chihuahua from my calendar — six images per week — for an entire year.
The title, A Chihuahua a Day Keeps the Sadness Away, started as a playful joke. Over time, however, it revealed a deeper truth: the daily act of painting became a way to endure sadness and quietly navigate depression.
Through repetition and discipline, what began as an exercise gradually became a body of work.
This is where it all began.
